Olympus Stylus Tough TG-2 iHS

Olympus Stylus Tough TG-2

The Olympus Stylus Tough TG-2 is Olympus' latest addition to itsrugged compact series. On paper, it boasts impressive specs--such as the deepest diving range of up to 15m and bright F2 aperture at the wide-end--that trumps what's in the market currently. Unfortunately, the company has yet to implement RAW image capture, a useful feature we think serious enthusiasts would sorely miss.

Like its TG-1 predecessor, the TG-2 is fitted with a similar 12-megapixel BSI CMOS sensor and comes with a zoom range that goes between 25mm to 100mm (35mm equivalent). What's different this time is a new Microscopic Macro function that allows shutterbugs to increases lens magnification by between 4x to 14x digitally.

Its other tough specifications include it being shockproof from 2m drops, crushproof up to 100kg, freezeproof down to -10 degrees Celsius and dustproof. Besides geotagging images when you travel, this rugged compact is also capable of shooting 1080p full-HD videos of your holiday and capturing 5fps in burst-mode shooting.

The TG-2 comes in black and red and will arrive in US stores in March for US$379.99. Pricing and availability of the camera in the region has yet to be confirmed.
